ENGermany and Lithuania are tightly linked by historical, economical and cultural connections. Vilnius being situated in the centre of Europe was an attractive city to live in, to create and to be engaged in commerce for people of various nationalities - Polish, Russians, Tartars, Germans, Italians, Jews, and others. German ethnic groups settled in Lithuania in the Middle Ages. The biggest communities were situated in Vilnius and Kaunas. A study on the structure of new citizens of Vilnius from 1661 until 1795, performed by Agnius Urbanavičius, shows that during this period 305 people moved from Germany to Vilnius, which makes 7 % of all newcomers.2 [...].
