LTStraipsnyje ilgametis stambiausio ir skaitomiausio Lietuvoje Vytauto Didžiojo universiteto leidinio "Darbai ir Dienos" redaktorius Leonas Gudaitis pasakoja apie nelengvas savo redaktorinės veiklos peripetijas. Profesorius Gudaitis straipsnyje pažvelgė į redaktoriaus profesiją savišku kūrybinės individualybės žvilgsniu, pastebėdamas nemažai jam trukdžiusių ir padėjusių dirbti veiksnių. 1994 m. Gudaičiui buvo pasiūlyta atkurti tarpukario "Darbus ir Dienas". Kaip teigia redaktorius Gudaitis, per visus, kaip leidinio redaktoriaus, darbo metus jis vengė abstrakčių ir nieko nauja nesakančių tekstų, nepaliovė ieškoti nestandartiško mąstymo, tikro naujumo, įdomumo, rizikingumo. Piktinosi negrabiais formaliųjų reikalavimų šablonais ilgose įžangose, juos braukė, jungė, perpasakojo natūraliais žodžiais. Nuo šeštojo "Darbų ir Dienų" numerio buvo pereita prie teminių tomų. Universitete tada buvo rašomos pirmosios vakarietiško tipo disertacijos, todėl reikėjo jungti tarytum nesu derinamus dalykus: iš anksto numatytą žurnalo tematiką su žmogiška būtinybe paskelbti po vieną įvairių sričių doktorantų straipsnį ir daktarams, profesoriams privalomą mokslinę publikaciją. Nors nuolat stigo patikimų autorių, redaktorius priešinosi pavardžių kartojimuisi ir leidinio pavertimui grupės draugų kromeliu. "Darbų ir Dienų" tematiką tarytum savaime formavo humanitarinių mokslų poreikiai. Mėginimas aprėpti visą šiuolaikinę lituanistinę humanitarinę kultūrą po aštuonerius metus šio paslapčia vykdyto eksperimento baigėsi bendradarbiams ir skaitytojams netikėtu, enciklopedišku 30 teminių tomų sąvadu.Reikšminiai žodžiai: „Darbai ir dienos“; Redaktorius; Universitetas; Kultūra; „Darbai ir dienos“; Editor; University; Humanitarian culture.

ENIn the article, Leonas Gudaitis, the editor of the biggest and the most popular publication of Vytautas Magnus University “The Works and the Days” (“Darbai ir dienos”), talks about not easy peripheries of his editorial work. In the article, Professor Gudaitis looks at the profession of the editor from a perspective of creative individual, highlighting a lot of obstructive and helpful factors. In 1994, Gudaitis got a proposal to renew “The Works and the Days” published during the interwar. The editor says that, during the years of his editorial work, he tried to avoid abstract idea-free texts and aimed to search for new non-standard thinking, true novelty, interesting ideas, and some risk. He rebelled against unhandy formal requirements in too extensive introductions; he used to refuse, join, or retell them in his own words. From the 6th volume, “The Works and the Days” started to publish themed volumes. The university was the first one that began writing doctoral papers according to Western requirements, thus the magazine had to combine sort of inconsistent thinks: predefined theme of the magazine and the need to publish doctoral articles and scientific publications of various areas necessary to doctors and professors. Although reliable authors were missing, the editor did not tolerate constant appearance of the same names; he did not want to turn the publication into a circle off friends. Themes of “The Works and the Days” were chosen according to the needs of human sciences. After eight years of secret experiment, the objective to overwhelm all contemporary Lithuanian human culture ended with a digest of 30 themed volumes unexpected for both the teammates and the readers.
