ENThe article is concerned with the two miraculous paintings of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lithuania. One of the oldest paintings in this country is Mother of God of Trakai, closely linked to Vytautas, the Grand Duke of Lithuania. It was also the first crowned painting in Lithuania (in 1718). Despite these facts, only Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn (crowned in 1927) is famous all over the world. The objective of the article is to explain why the image of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn is currently the most popular in Lithuania.
