ENThe article draws attention to the custom of the inhabitants of old Pušalotas to grow an apple tree in the rue flower garden at the end of the house, at the bedroom window, on the southern or eastern side of the house. Latvian fairy tales also tell us about an apple tree planted at the bedroom window. As the rue flower garden belongs to the girl, the apple tree growing there could belong to her. For Jonas Basanavičius the apple was a symbol of fertility. If you eat an apple, most often you will have a son. In addition, some of the features of the apple tree remind us of Ushas, the ancient Vedic Goddess of the Dawn. In Rig Veda more than 30 hymns are dedicated to her. It is believed that the image of the apple tree could conceal the enormously powerful (having a broad spectrum of power) female, representing the woman’s world deity. Therefore, it is especially delightful that the Pušalotas apple tree preserved its worship reflection and location (rue flower garden, south-east, bedroom window). [From the publication]
