ENThe comparison of the two groups of Proto-Germanic verbs (primary verbs with stems ending with j and w) with the Balto-Slavic cognates showed that Germanic verbs with geminated j and w should be considered oxytona (as corresponding to Balto-Slavic verbs having mobile accent paradigm), while Germanic verbs without gemination of j and w should be considered baritona (corresponding to Balto-Slavic verbs with immobile (baritonized) accent paradigm). The analysis of Proto-Germanic verbal adjectives and past participles with the suffix -to- showed that they can be divided into two groups: finalstressed, corresponding to Balto-Slavic verbs with mobile accent paradigm, and those with root-placed stress, corresponding to Balto-Slavic verbs with immobile (baritonized) accent paradigm. A similar conclusion was made concerning the stress of weak Proto- Germanic praeteritum of primary verbs. Acquired results have led to the establishment of 40 primary verbs having stems with sonantic and vocalic finals, divided into two Proto-Germanic accentual paradigms (baritona and oxytona).
