Europos Sąjungos - Jungtinių Amerikos Valstijų santykiai XX-XXI amžių sandūroje: Vakarų civilizacinio fragmentavimosi dilemos

LTPranešime aptariamos XX–XXI amžių sandūroje Vakarų civilizacinei vienybei pavojų keliančios ideologinės takoskyros – pirmiau metafizinių, ir tik paskiau politinių nesutarimų tarp Europos Sąjungos ir Junginių Amerikos Valstijų židiniai. Transatlantiniai ginčai įsižiebę ne tik globaliosios politikos strategavimo ir vykdymo klausimais. Nebedera požiūriai į istorinę žmogaus prigimtį, atskirų tautų bei valstybių pasiektas socialinio kultūrinio vystymosi pakopas. Vakarų civilizacijos vidinio skeldėjimo grėsmes aštriai mato, joms priešnuodžių uoliai ieško abejose Atlanto pusėse. Europos Sąjungai ir Jungtinėms Amerikos Valstijoms pertelkti ir pervienyti metamos didelės pajėgos. Pranešimas baigiamas, apibrėžiant pagrindines teorines dilemas – vienokias Europos Sąjungai, kitokias Jungtinėms Amerikos Valstijoms, – kurių neišsprendus, civilizacinę Vakarų vienybę puoselėti taps vis sunkiau.

ENThe paper discusses some ideological divergences endangering the relative unity and coherence of Western Civilization at the turn of the 21st century. The major conceptual rifts between the European Union and the United States are primarily of metaphysical and only secondarily of political nature. The transatlantic quibbles are not just over strategy-making and - enforcing in global politics. At a more fundamental level, there is a growing alienation in assessing the historical nature of humankind, determining the exact stage of social and cultural development any given nation or state has been able to achieve. The perils of deepening cracks in Western civilization are keenly observed and counteracted on both sides of the Atlantic. Huge efforts are deployed to re-consolidate and re-unite the European Union and the United States. The paper ends by delineating the most important of theoretical dilemmas – one set for the European Union and another one for the United States – which, if left unresolved, will make it increasingly harder to retain and cultivate the unity of Western Civilization.
