ENThis article intends to accentuate Vytautas Mačernis' poetical tradition. The Land generation poets' creative sources, esthetical attitudes and the rebirth of their tradition in Soviet period " literature are discussed in it. Bringing the concept of this tradition up-to-date aims at the affirmation of the fact, that history is a certain process and every significant poetical school, every original poet leaves his creative code. For many years the theme of land and peasants' world was the main direction of Lithuanian literature development. The would-be Land poets came to literature as the generation during the World War Two. In their programme they emphasized two main points - the new aproach to the peasants' culture and the vast openness to the West European culture, philosophy and philology. Mačernis implemented both creative objectives of his generation. This fact is confirmed by his main poetry cycles: "Visions" and "Sonnets of the year". The Land generation tradition was drastically interrupted during the first Soviet years, but it was reborn as new and original works in the the sixties and was revealed in the most striking way in Jonas Juškaitis' poetry.
