The Role of "Santara-Šviesa" in formation of Lithuanian national identity in exile

ENThe paper presents the research of how Santara-Šviesa, a movement formed by the Lithuanians in exile during the sixties and seventies helped to maintain and form Lithuanian national identity. The author analyses the ways that Santara-Šviesa participated in the maintenance of Lithuanian national identity both in the United States and among the Lithuanians living in their homeland. The author discloses controversies confronting this movement while seeking the propagation of freedom of thought among its compatriots who remained in the occupied country. Present research is based on little known periodicals, published in the sixties and seventies in the United States.
