Summary / Abstract:

ENThe question of Lithuania’s national identity became especially relevant in the second half of the 20th c. when Baltic countries found themselves occupated by the Soviet Union. The aim for liberation from occupation became possible through creation – in spiritual way: reinstatement of the archetypes (values of identity) of the ravished Self. Therefore one began looking for the analogies of the Baltic Self with the world cultures. Lithuania was related anew with India trough its old language sanskrit, connecting Hinduism, Buddhism, nature’s sacrality, temples of ancient Asia. Especially significant is the paradigmatic dive of the Lithuanian authors into India’s religious spirit by poet-playwright Rabindranath Tagore who became a spiritual brother to the Lithuanian composers: Bronius Kutavičius (“Two Birds in the Shade of the Woods“, 1976), Raminta Šerkšnytė (“Sunset and Dawn Songs“, 2007), Marius Baranauskas (“Talking“, 2002). And Indonesian temple Borobudur with its the architecture conception of spiritual light became the ideological structural basis for the 3rd organ sonata (1977) of Giedrius Kuprevičius “Borobudur” (1977). This manifests about freedom oppened the Lithuanian globalisation.
