ENThe article is devoted to the participation of scientists from Ukraine – representatives of universities, societies and individual researchers in the activities of the 9th Archaeological Congress in Vilno (Vilnius) in 1893, organized by the Moscow Archaeological Society. The peculiarity of this congress was that the venue was proposed by Alexander III. The author considers the general conditions and peculiarities of the congress, connected primarily with the problems of Polish-Russian relations. It was this that led to difficulties in realizing the tasks of the congress, aimed at demonstrating the imperial presence in the region. A special attention is given to the important place of the «Ukrainian» component, as evidenced by the number of members, the level of representation of participants, their contribution to the work of the scientific meeting and the content of reports. The authors of the latter were such well-known researchers as V. Antonovich, A. Efimenko, I. Linnichenko, F. Uspenskii, E. Shtern and others. The author comes to the conclusion that the scientists presented the results of scientific research that contributed to the development of certain areas and topics of history, archeology, including as a contribution to the study of the history and culture of Lithuania.
