Національно-державне відродження України та Литви початку ХХ ст.: перспективи компаративного аналізу

ENThe author of the article proposes to use comparative analysis in the study of the national-state rebirth of the early twentieth century Ukrainians and Lithuanians. The comparison helps to refute some stereotypes of Ukrainian historiography, which paved the way of state-building at the beginning of the twentieth century. In particular, both Ukrainians and Lithuanians had an incomplete social background. The author examines the problem of the state traditions of both nations and stresses that it is necessary to evaluate it taking into account alternative forms outside the national state. The article compares demographic indicators, conditions for the development of education and the level of literacy rate of Ukrainians and Lithuanians under the reign of the Russian Empire, and the role of the religious factor. The author outlines such a perspective direction for further comparative studies as the characterization of the national intelligence, its views, and programs of state-building, their role in the consolidation of the nation, etc.
