ENThe village of Kūlokai, located in Marijampolė district, has been renowned for many years by the Boruta surname. One of the oldest ancestors of the Boruta family is Kazys Boruta, the grandfather of the writer Kazys Boruta. The farmer of Kūlokai village married Marija Bendoriūtė from Pūstelninkai village. The family had three daughters and three sons. The eldest son was traditionally baptized as Kazys, and later he inherited his father’s estate. Kazys Boruta married Marija Sirutytė, and they had five children: Magdalena, Kazys, Petras, Petronėlė, and Jonas. All five children of the Borutai family were admitted to education. Magdalena acquired a historian’s specialty at Vytautas Magnus University and taught history at Alytus schools throughout her working age. She married a teacher and writer Konstantinas Bajerčius who was murdered in Alytus’s security office in 1946. Kazys Boruta, a writer, who tried various genres (poems, tales, novels), was also a productive translator. Jonas Boruta graduated from the Faculty of Technology at Vytautas Magnus University. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison at Intos Camp. He returned to work as a constructor in the ceramics factory in Rokai (near Kaunas). His son Jonas Boruta became Bishop SJ, Ass. Doctor of Natural Sciences. Petronėlė Borutaitė acquired a doctor’s degree in dentistry at Vytautas Magnus University. Her husband, Jurgis Starkus, immigrated to the United States at the end of the war. Petras Boruta stayed in his father’s home. He married to Vincė Gaubaitė, raised two sons Vytas and Algis. He experienced a lot of hassle before escaping exile. Sergejus Staniškis, the son of Marija Borutaitė-Kieliuvienė-Staniškienė, was a professional soldier, a participant of Klaipėda rebellion, the commander of the partisan area of South Lithuania (Nemunas). On April 23, 1946 he participated in the adoption of the declaration of the Lithuanian Partisan Commanders in the Punia Šilas.On February 3, 1953 Major Sergejus Staniškis, the Deputy Commander, the Commander of the Southern Partisan (Nemunas) Area, was killed. When Lithuania regained its independence, the sons of Petras Boruta - Vytautas and Algis began to take care of the homestead of the parents and ancestors. Now the homestead is mostly cherished by his grandson Genius with his family.
