ENThe Military Census of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from 1565 names 241 boyars from the Gardinas district. There were 232 men and 9 women registered, together with their their horses, the list of riders and the infantry equipment. The article discusses the structure of the census, describes the ways of recording the members and servants of the boyars’ families whose men were sent to the army, and investigates the nobility names. Men‘s names are divided according to their first names and possible surnames, while women’s names are divided according to their first names and family names. The naming types are subdivided into naming methods. While describing the ways of naming, the attention is drawn to those names that are composed of only first names, as well as those containing additional elements (generic words explaining personal names). Recording a person, the name of the place of origin is sometimes mentioned or the place where the horse comes from. The structure of naming of men and women is investigated. [From the publication]
