ENThe rudiments of the sociological thought are back to the XVI-XVII century. The working life occurrencies had been described in the Lithuanian Statute, in the works of the professors of Vilnius University and in other documents of that time. The work activites were analyzed by S. Daukantas, P. Višinskis, K. Kalinauskas, Z. Sierakauskas (the latter were the leaders of the rebellion against the czar occupation in 1831 and 1863). The production and work activities were analyzed in "Aušra" and "Varpas" newspapers and in other periodics of that time. It is pointed out, that 1918-1940 were marked by the appearance of the significant works of Lithuanian sociologists. One can mention the works of K. Šaulys, K. Paltarokas, P. Leonas, A. Maceina, A. Rimkus, Z. Janulaitis, M. Riomeris, V. Čepinskis. The development of industrial and work sociology after the second World War is of great interest in the articles also. During the rapid process of industrialization the necessity to perceive the nature of the social processes in enterprises as well as that of industrial organizations, became very important. But the importance of forsceing the tendentions of the development of social processes became actual also. The sociological Researches centres were established in Vilnius University (1965), Kaunas Technological Institute (1966) and the Department of Phylosophy, Sociology and Law of History Institute (from 1977 it was renamed as the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law). The sociological researches in industrial associations were started by Vilnius Engineering Institute (now Vilnius Gediminas Technical University) and by the lectures from the National Economy and Advanced Training Institute. The scientists from those institutions began to publish monographies, article collections, methodical recommendations in sociology (publications by R. Grigas, A. Mitrikas, A. Matulionis, Z. Morkūnas, A. Marčinskas, A. Ciužas, V. Jonaitis, S. Butkus, A. Mikšys, K. Sviklas, A. Karalius, D. Tureikytė, A. Vosyliūtė, R. Tamošiūnienė, G. Matulienė, I. Juozeliūnienė, L. Kuzmickaitė and others). The sociological researches were going in Industrial fields and at level of industrial associations as well. Very broad and systemized researches were done in the light industry associations in "Sigma" and "Eifa", in Marijampolės food industry association (now it is called "Fasa"), Mažeikių factory of compressors and in the others. The problems of industrial and work sociology were analysed in scientific and practical conferences, which were organized in Palanga (1977), Marijampolė (1978), Vilnius (1979), Rokiškis (1979), Birštonas (1981), Druskininkai (1976). The Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law took part in the process of the evoluation of social develoment’s plans. The council by the Council of Ministries was established in 1976 in order to plan and coordinate the social - economical development. Its attempts were directed to activate associations of workers, ministries, working places of towns and countries for the organization of sociological researches, for the preparation of social programs and their realization. This council strived to disseminate the progressive experience, controlled the preparation of social programs, their validity, the process of realization in ministries, towns and districts. In the seventies and eighties the sociological services were started to establish in big industrial associations and plants. They collected sociological information, organized sociological researches. In 1977 and 1980 was organized a review of preparation and realization of social development programs in order to elucidate the effect of instillation of the results of sociological researches and realization of social programs in associations and organizations. 87 enterprises took part in the review.
