ENThe linguistic changes in modem Russian have a specific reflection on the russian language in Lithuania. This is caused by both the functioning of the language in non-native environment and the influence of the Lithuanian language. The paper deals with productive structural types of abbreviations, their functions in discourse and the characteristic features of their spelling. The research is based on the abbreviations of the 1990's used in the media of Lithuania.
