Summary / Abstract:

LTMonetų klastojimo reiškinys atsirado netrukus po to, kai pasirodė pirmieji tauriųjų metalų pinigai.

ENThe phenomenon of coin forgery came into existence soon after the first money of precious metals appeared. In the Middle Ages this phenomenon ruined not only the commodity-monetary system but also destroyed the state’s economy and the prestige of the rulers. Therefore it is not by chance that the most severe punishments were imposed for that. In the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, unlike other countries of Western Europe where coins were minted in many towns, which had self-governance, the regalia of minting belonged exclusively to the ruler, and beginning with 1632 Sigismund IV Vasa handed it over to the state – the Seimas. Therefore coin forgery in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania is to be regarded as a state crime and investigation of such cases took place at the castle court. Therefore the article is aimed at publicising the record in Trakai castle court acts about forgery of coins and other articles in 1677.
