ENThe Artist Judel Pan by right is considered as the most outstanding Jewish artist of Republic of Belarus. At the same time, he was born and studied in Zarasae (Lithuania), worked in Dinaburg, moved to Riga and Kreuzburg (nowadays Krustpils). Thus, he has lived in Lithuania and Latvia for almost 35 years, from them 20 years in Latvia. Despite hunger, deprivations, poverty the young man had always wanted to become the artist. J. Pan studied at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 1896 J. Pan forever left to Vitebsk. The author, having studied the biography of the artist, investigated the years of his stay in Lithuania and Latvia. It was possible to show how the years of study have affected the views and representations of the future artist.
