Summary / Abstract:

ENThe aim of the research: to analyse the music of the Mournful Lamentations. The objectives of the research: — briefly present the historical origin of the devotional practice of the Mournful Lamentations; — present the musical examples of Latvian, Lithuanian and Polish canticles of the Mournful Lamentations; — carry out the comparative analysis of the presented melodies; — draw conclusions. The hypothesis of the research: the music of the Mournful Lamentations in Latvia is not of local origin; it is borrowed and mixed with local traditional tunes. The methodology of the research: retrospective analysis, synthesis and comparative analysis. [Extract, p. 45]
