ENThe article examines the mechanisms of adaptation of Slavic loans in modern Lithuanian. The analysis of penetration of Slavic models into Lithuanian grammar is based on the database of language errors of the State Commission of the Lithuanian language (www.vlkk.lt). The analyzed cases demonstrate the usual trends of language development: Lithuanian tends to use minimal sufficient linguistic means, to standartize grammatical and semantic models, to replace complex grammatical structures with simpler ones, to develop analytical structures, to create grammatical structures to express novel meanings, to fill grammatical and semantic gaps, to reduce semantic and grammatical homonymy, to standartize generalized meanings, to develop figurative and more abstract meanings.
