Summary / Abstract:

ENThe present article deals with the issue of borrowing idiomatic expressions (phraseological units, proverbs and adages) from Slavic languages into the Lithuanian language. Lithuanians and Slavs, especially Poles, Russians and Belarusians, are territorial neighbours that have close genetic ties, and long economic, cultural and political relationships. The examples of biblical phraseological units, and set expressions containing confessional lexicon (names of church objects, holidays, cult people, and etc.) demonstrate borrowing of a number of phraseological units from Polish, Russian and Belarusian, and the origin of borrowing could hardly be set.
