Phenomenology in Lithuania
Summary / Abstract:

ENThe report deals with the beginning of Lithuanian phenomenology, its connections with the Western phenomenology and its distinctive features. The report claims that Lithuanian philosophy is rising under the influence of phenomenology and together with it. In additional to that, Lithuanian philosophy is held to be distinctive and interesting as far as it overcomes and refreshes this tradition. Phenomenology both in West Europe and Lithuania is constantly developed continuing creatively the tradition of E. Husserl and M. Heidegger. The new features are assumed over and over under the influence of changing living world (Lebenswell) and international coexistence (Mitsein). The author suggests a criterion for the evaluation of philosophy’s maturity according to its autonomy in respect of the dominated school and draws the conclusion that a “pure” phenomenology engaging in meticulous analysis of Husserl’s and Heidegger’s texts is neither needful nor useful. According to him, the power of phenomenology is lying in its creativity that ferments not only philosophy but also the other humanitarian and social sciences. He thinks, the tradition is still alive and is developed with the help of Lithuanian thought as well.
