ENVilnius Military School was founded on 29 October, 1864. During WWI, as the Germans approached Vilnius, the Military School was evacuated in 1915. The School had insignia of two types. The School’s trainees, cadets wore round jettons and the graduates were handed insignia in the form of a cross. The insignia of a cadet was established in 1910. It was to be worn on a chain on the left side of the chest. The insignia was silver, enamel plated. The graduation insignia was approved on 27 February 1915. These insignia were silver and bronze. Insignia used to be ordered in workshops. When a provisional Government took power in Russia in 1917, new insignia bearing no monograms of the emperors Alexander II and Nikolai II were produced. Officers Lithuanians also wore the insignia of the graduate of Vilnius Military School in independent Lithuania between 1918 and 1940.
