Inwentarze kolegiów Towarzystwa Jezusowego jako źródło do badań nad jezuicką kulturą muzyczną

ENThe aim of this paper is to attract attention to information concerning Jesuit music culture that can be found in the inventories of Jesuit collegia, drawn up by Commission of National Education inspectors as a result of the Suppression of the Society of Jesus in 1773. The mentioned manuscripts usually contain descriptions of Jesuit music boarding schools, which played a major role in the professional education of musicians and the cultivation of music culture in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The author’s intention has been to present a characterisation and description of the manuscripts now kept in the collection n° 1603 “Committee for the Educational Fund” of the Russian State Archive of Ancient Documents (Rossiyskiy gosudarstvennyi arkhiv dryevnikh aktov) in Moscow. These documents, which concern schools located in the Eastern part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth have not been considered by historians of Jesuit music boarding schools, such as Jerzy Kochanowicz, who based their research on sources from the Roman Archive of the Society of Jesus. In this context, the post-Suppression inventories constitute a valuable supplementary source of knowledge, since they contain lists of instruments and members of music ensembles, complete with the remuneration they received at the time of the Suppression, as well as catalogues of books and music prints with the names of their authors or composers.
