ENMarking the 85th anniversary of its establishment in 2018, the Lithuanian Art Museum ties the beginning of its institutional activities to the Vilnius City Magistrate‘s City Museum founding meeting held on March 15, 1933. Over the course of nine years, until March 30, 1941, when the historic museum was reorganised into the Vilnius State Art Museum, valuable artefacts were collected and a new base was prepared for a new state in its existence. The Vilnius Museum was founded by the famous historians Dr Henryk Łowmiański, Dr Jan Adamus, and others. Not forgetting its origins, the Lithuanian Art Museum continues the mission of its predecessor, not only by amassing Vilnius-related heritage, but also by organising exhibitions for the capital city, releasing albums and initiating art and cultural history research.
