Summary / Abstract:

ENGeneration is a broadly used term in both society and science. However, the definition is not clear and often mixed-up. Even more difficult to distinguish one generation from another, separate age group or cohort, to describe a period of time for different generations. This paper presents some theoretical background analyzing generations in organizations and also empirical data (N=112 "youth" employees, N=282 "older" employees) expressing a form of relationship between generations at work. Intergenerational Tension Questionnaire (Teh, 2001, 2002) was used to analyze differences and possible forms of tension between "youth" and "older" employees in one big energetic company in Lithuania. The Lithuanian version of the questionnaire did not repeat the same dimensional structure - methodologically verified the results presented in this paper are according to the dimensions in the Lithuanian sample. The results show that generations declare positive intentions to collaborate with each other, but "younger" are more expressing negative perceptions toward "older" employees.
