ENCurrent research is dedicated to the reflection of the sociolegal dimension of the Baltic question in the institutional documentation of the National Archives of the United States between 1948 and 1963. The main documents used for its completion come from the Record Group (RG) 59 – General Records of the Department of State, Bureau of European Affairs. The research is tended to uncover general trends in reconstruction and interpretation of the sociolegal element within the structure of the Baltic question. The author of this paper analyzes sociolegal dimension of the Baltic question in four different discourses: in context of the legal consequences of the policy of non-recognition of the annexation of the Baltic States; in relation with preservation of the elements of the Baltic statehood; in context of the sociolegal protection of the former Baltic citizens in the West and in regard with affirmation of the extraordinary legal status of the Baltic diplomatic officials.
