ENThe paper analyses nominal possessive constructions with the genitive case in one of the most prominent pieces of Lithuanian didactic literature of the 19th century Motiejus Valančius' "Vaikų knygelė" (Childrens Booklet). Most attention is paid to the discussion of semantics of the above-mentioned constructions. The constructions are classified into the ones marking the relationship between the part and the whole, the relationship of possession, kinship, subordination, etc. From the syntactical point of view, the main member of such constructions is the headword, pointing to the object of possession, while the non-coordinated adjunct - the noun in the genitive case - marks the possessor. From the lexical point of view, the constructions are very different, because the genitive case joins the noun irrespective of the lexical meaning of either the adjunct or the headword.
