ENThe present article deals with the nouns used for the identification of persons, borrowed from Lithuanian in Aknīste, Gārsene, Laši and Prode dialects, spread along the Lithuanian border. There are about 50 nouns and their variants, borrowed from Lithuanian, in these dialects. The borrowed nouns characterize the person according to his or her physical features, character traits, social and personal relations and occupation. The borrowings hawe entered dialects in an oral form, therefore phonetical and morphological variants of nouns have originated. The functioning of variants is determined by their existence in Lithuanian, as well as by the phonetic peculiarities of dialects. Lithuanian has been a mediator language for the borrowings from slavic languages. Phonetic processes have been also influenced by the exchange of languages in the Gārsene and Western part of Prode districts; thus there is a possibility of substratum. The article also deals with the semantic adaptation of borrowings that has taken the form of quantitative and qualitative semantic changes, specifically determined by the transfer of meaning. Glossary is enclosed to provide a more extensive insight into the fixated nouns used for the identification of persons, borrowed from Lithuanian. It includes borrowings, ethymologized by the author of the article.
