Summary / Abstract:

ENIn this article the use of elements of violence culture in the post-Soviet Lithuanian theatre with reference to Jonas Jurašas, Eimuntas Nekrošius, Oskaras Koršunovas and Agnius Jankevičius creation of the independence period has been analyzed. The comparative as well as descriptive analytical methods that helped to reveal the features of violence culture elements in the creation works of different directors have been applied in this article. What is more, the definition of violence culture and its manifestations in the post-Soviet Lithuania have been described as well as the sources of violence themes, its staging strategies and the means of visualization of violence elements in the works of different directors have been compared and analyzed. After the analysis of the textual and visual material has been made, the conclusion has been made that the violence as the natural masculine nature feature is an integral part of the culture in the post-Soviet Lithuania. Selfreflection of Lithuanian theatre, the constant analysis of directors’ and actors’ personal states causes the subjective, emotional, psychological predominance of violence images in the creation works of O. Koršunovas and A. Jankevičius. In most cases J. Jurašas and E. Nekrošius use tragedies of separate individuals as a means for analysis of objective, systematic violence manifestations. Violence in Lithuanian theatre is directed by the help of principal of meaningful oppositions and tactical direction (O. Koršunovas, A. Jankevičius), the drama of directed images (E. Nekrošius) or reflections of violence of specific periods (J. Jurašas). Visualization of elements of violence culture is inspired by the drama material, personal experiences of directors and actors as well as real press documented stories. The meaning to violence is given directly by illustrating the text or by changing the violence place caused by the drama text or archetypal interpretation; based on the contrast principal, the violence is performed while it should not be, that is, the directors inspire it themselves. The meaning to the violence on the stage is given by the speech, perception, social-cultural, specific theatrical codes. Violence and its elements in the post-Soviet Lithuanian theatre do not become the self-aimed view: they are one of the means of creation that invite to think, analyze the causality of all the view but not the act of brutality. It is possible to claim that the influence of elements of violence culture used in the theatre, as well as the case of violence used by the press, depends on the social environment of the spectator and it causes visible images of interpretation from neutral to positive or negative, psychological or social state of the spectator which can be influenced by the disappointment or aggression.
