ENResearches of everyday life help to reveal the social mentality, which was formed in people's daily life. One of the most common sources of such studies arc personal documents: correspondence, family chronicles, Silva Re-ruin sets or different types of accounting books and etc. The diaries take a special place among all sources. Nevertheless, such sources mainly describe the author, they also elucidate the public life ofthat epoch and the surrounding social environment of the author. The source, which is analyzed in the article, is the diary of Antanas Kazimieras Sapiega (1689-1739), who was the elder of Merkinė. This diary recorded author's daily life in 1722-1733: land holding administration, the tribunal court sessions of GDL (Grand Duchy of Lithuania), travel routes, the list of correspondents, entertainments and so on. This diary is a valuable object for the research of social elite's everyday life in GDL. On the other hand, many of the records talk about moderate Sapiega's life in a province. Therefore the article raises the question: how the person originated from the famous family, but who failed to do more significant political career and used to face to the financial difficulties could reveal and strengthen his social identity. Searching for an answer to this raised question the focus was made to the forms of Antanas Kazimieras Sapiega everyday life and the surrounding objects: clothing, entertainment, gifts, eating habits and so on. They gave non-verbal information about the owner, his social position, and self-presentations. It can be noted that mentioned household and lifestyle details have helped to understand the values and social communication patterns ofthat period.
