ENAs early as the 3rd century A.D., in Lithuania a great number of artifacts, particularly adornments made from copper alloys, used to be coated with silver. A large variety of techniques were applied during the period of the 5-9th cent. Conservation of such artifacts depends not only on the condition of the find, but also on the manufacturing technology. The silver coating on the pins from Linksmėnai was cleaned by polymer film rubbing and chemically with formic acid and its ammonia salt. The unidentified organic stain was removed with a hot solution of sodium hydroxide. After the conservation with polybutyl- methacrylate the reconstruction of the pins was carried out.
