Summary / Abstract:

ENIn this article students’ views towards European Union were analized on the basis of students’ imagination of linkage „Me - Lithuania - European Union“. Qualitative analysis shows that Lithuania’s strategical aim is understandable for students and they discuss nessesity and the time to be ready to be in union, advantages and disadvantages. Students’ view about Europe an Union is based on many source of information and in comparisson with other groups of people they more often rely on own experience. Students are sure that Lithuania due to its geographical place and its prewar role in Europe undoubtedly must be together with other European countries, but at the same time they discuss whether Lithuanian is ready to join EU or not, whether European nations are willing to accept it. According to some students it would be better to improve economics and standarts of living and then to enter EU. Others think that EU could help to cope with difficulties more quickly. Students see many advantages for Lithuania if it enters EU. Especially they stress opportunities to move on freely, to have opportunities to study in Western universities and so on. On the other hand they also note some disadvantages, such as loosing of national identity, etc. It should be stressed that students’ opinions in many cases are not categorical. In fact, they analize problem and do this from several point of view, discuss it and andress it like multidimensial and complex issue. [From the publication]
