ENIn 1918 when the independence of Lithuania was restored, the forests and their fauna were sad and poor. Our country was brought to decline by the war an occupation, forestry and hunting were neglected and the hooted animals were almost annihilated. The government independent Lithuanian began to vivity forests and hunting economy from the beginning. On the 1st on December in 1918 the Lithuanian government through the Forests department published “Temporary hunting rules”. Regular Hunting and fishery society was established in the same year. Tadas Ivanauskas, Povilas Matulionis, Elijošius Nanevičius, Jeronimas Paulionis and Bronius Žvynius have prepared the Society Statute and the society was registered on the 7th of February in 1921. Tadas Ivanauskas, who was elected as a President of Society, united a lot of educated personalities, who set to effective measures for wild fauna defence, for cultured hunt extension. In 1927 Society began to publish a magazine, called “A hunter”, which existed till 1940. The Lithuanian Regular Hunting and Fishery society was one of the founder of International hunt and hunting fauna defence council which was honorably representing Lithuania in Europe, perfected hunting rules cultivated, regular hunting, improved hunting economy. The society activities and the edition of magazine “The hunter” was ceased by the Soviet occupation. These years of independence are very important to our culture and history, they made a start to a lot of good ideas and noble works, which are still continuing in nowadays. This book presents all hunting laws, reviews publications from magazines “A hunter” and “Our groves", looks over hunting history. There are a lot of photographs and different copies of documents, which were not presented anywhere else before. This book should take interest not even hunters and fishermen but also those who care for one nation history, culture, defence of nature and preservation of the past.
