ENCivil aviation - one of the most important, modem and fastest machines and traffic means, and it has significant role in the state economy, social and cultural life. Today, when the significance of the civil aviation has extremely grown, the analysis of the development of the Civil aviation is very relevant. Until nowadays there is no scientifical survey of the history of civil aviation history, which would reveal the development of civil aviation in the Republic of Lithuania since the beginning until the restoration of independent state of the Republic of Lithuania. Author believes that she could at least partially fill the gap and will look at the history of civil aviation as a historian. During the first steps of the Independent Republic of Lithuania, when young country, defending its sovereignty, established its military aviation and strengthened economy of the state, the beginning of the development of the aviation has been too complicated. Establishing the military aviation at the same time was the first step to create industry of the aviation. Aircrafts, developed by Lithuanian aviaconstructor A. Gustaitis, under the name ANBO were equal to the planes, which had been developed in European countries. But the aircraft communication was to expensive and Lithuania had to employ foreign companies. In 1927 Lithuanian Flying Club was established and its duty was to take care of inner aviation: courses for pilots were organized, some new planes had been bought, and the transportation of passengers took place.20 years later, on January 1, 1936, when the economy of the country had been strengthened, the Government of Lithuania established the Inspection of aerial communication under Ministry of Communication. The inspection had duty to organize civil transportation by air. The allocation had been put for buying two first English planes, type „Percival Q6“ and the studies of pilots abroad. In September, 1938, the first air communication line Kaunas-Klaipeda-Palanga had been launched. It was the beginning of the development of independent air traffic in Lithuania. Despite all difficulties Lithuania at last had its own civil aviation. But WWII and occupation has left enormous loss. Everything that had been created was destroyed. After the war Lithuania lost its independence and all possibilities disappeared. Complicated circumstances of the creation of material facilities in the occupied Lithuania, the meaning of aircrafts in transportation, agriculture, application of aircrafts in other spheres are being revealed in the book. At the end of 20th century, at the end of the 80-ties, when the democratic changes had started in Soviet Union, the liberation movement started to grow. Big changes happened in the aerial society: the meetings of the workers and sportsmen of civil and sport aviation had been organized, during them the major directions of Lithuanian civil and sport aviation were anticipated. In the eve of the restoration of the Independent Lithuania state, in 1989, civil aviators, representatives of Aviation Sport Federation, veterans of aviation and people of spirit established the Union of Lithuanian Aviators and reestablished the activities of independent Lithuanian Flying Club. The new stage of of civil aviation in Lithuania have begun. The restoration of the independence of Lithuania in Mart 11, 1990 has opened the possibilities to the development of national aviation. The traffic aviation has been substantially changed, it was adjusted to the vital needs of Lithuanian state. Lithuania has been recognized by other countries, the collaboration with them was set. Those steps had vital importance as it determined conductive possibilities of the development of the civil aviation. The relevance of the book is that the first time history of Lithuanian civil aviation is thoroughly examined, accentuating and specifying unknown facts. Referring to the scientific analysis of archival sources and different authors4 works, the summary of facts and events have been made. The importance of civil aviation of Lithuania and its role deciding tasks of Lithuanian economy, social and cultural life is revealed in the book. The victories and losses connected to the many aspects of state, war and society life are being analyzed. Therefore, the history of the aviation of Lithuania reflects not only the beginning of the aviation and its fixation in 1919, when independent Republic of Lithuania had been originated, but the first steps in establishing civil and military aviation, the multiple activities of Lithuanian Flying Club, then the occupation and after-war history till the restoration of the independence in 1990. One of the purpose of the book is educative, as it is bestowed to the students of specialties close to the aviation and the general public as well.
