ENIn 2010, at the invitation of Prof. Anatolu Nikolaevich Kirpichnikov, the head of the archaeological excavations, reconstructions were made of 8th-9th-century pottery collected on the grounds of the Staraya Ladoga State Historical-Architectural and Archaeological Museum-Reserve. The work of the project participants in recreating analogies of Staraya Ladoga pottery started with the investigation of the original material, i. e. the clay and granite from the quarry sites. Reconstruction experts recreated about twenty pots and several large and small bowls. The vessels were hand built without the use of a potter's wheel. The experiment was recently extended with the hope that interest will continue to grow. The archaeologists', historians', and reconstruction experts' joint work, the theory, and the practice will, in the author's opinion, always productively supplement one another and create stimuli to develop scientific discussions and pursue new discoveries.
