ENThe tale about Polotsk in the legendary part of the Lithuanian Chronicles is one of the most interesting tales, which has long attracted the attention of scientists. The hagiographic history of St Paraskov(g)ia-Praxedes found in it has received an especially large quantity of attention. The article definitively emphasises that in studying this history and the entire tale about Polotsk, it is essential to look at it in a broader intellectual context and in the era's spiritual context. It is already possible at this time to state that not only were written sources used, but also the influence of sacred Polotsk and Roman objects as well as the cult of the saints, epigraphy, and oral tradition were taken into consideration. The article elaborates on the historiographical conclusion concerning the main source of the history of St Paraskov(g)ia-Praxedes, i.e. the 'life' of St Euphrosinia of Polotsk, and asserts that socalled 'the redaction of the Collections', the oldest known redaction copy (ГИМ, Enapx. 406) dating to the early 16th century, was used in the Lithuanian Chronicles.
