ENThe paper analyses the problems of rendering culture-specific words and focuses on the neutralization of cultural specificity. On the one hand, it inevitably raises the problem of equivalency. On the other hand, however, the aspect of cultural differences is important. The paper maintains the approach that disappearance of culture-specific content in the rendering is based on both subjective and objective factors. The present inter-lingual research attempts to examine the cases of neutralization of culture-specific words, their flaws and potential possibilities to realize cultural specificity in another language. The research is richly supplied with the illustrative material from lexicographical sources (bilingual German-Lithuanian dictionaries) that reveal various means of rendering culture-specific words by neutralizing their specific meaning.
