ENThe article focuses on the examination of the contrastive headline features of English compared to Lithuanian, which can be identified in the translation of the National Geographic article headlines. The objective of the analysis has been to reveal how the employment of different translation strategies affects the linguistic and semantic changes in the selected headlines. Respectfully, the contrastive aspects of English and Lithuanian headlines have been highlighted in terms of their language and functions performed. Various items have been examined with the help of a contrastive descriptive analysis. The study is based on the terminology and interpretations of the translation strategies introduced by Eirlys E.Davies. Analysis of the selected headline samples points to the linguistic and semantic alterations in the translations. The effectiveness and semantic accuracy of the headlines is discussed. In addition, the study highlights the most frequently used translation strategies.
