ENUlyana Podberezskaya (1480-s – 1556) was born in a wellknown princely family. Her life was very diffi cult and dramatic. After divorce she hade to struggle for her own rights and for her children’s rights for a long time. To achieve her purpose Ulyana for several times represented her position in the royal court and corresponded with the Patriarch of Constantinople. As a result, she achieved success. In his later years princess Podberezskaya took the veil and became a hegumeness of the famous Spaso-Efvrosinyevsky monastery in Polotsk. Ulyana’s destiny is a wonderful demonstration of those, that women could play a very impressive role in a social life of Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
