ENIn 1905, the priests from Sudovia set the goal of establishing a Lithuanian agricultural school. Unfortunately, the efforts did not work. The successors of the initiative were the activists of the educational association ‘Žiburys’ (Light) which was founded in 1906. The association took various measures to achieve their goal, however, their efforts did not bring the expected end and the school was not opened. Although the association did not collect sufficient funds, the biggest obstacle was the issue of the language of instruction. If the language of instruction had been Russian, the ‘Žiburys’ association would have got the financial support of the Tsarist authorities and could have easily opened an agricultural school. The cooperative ‘Žagrė’ (Plough), which took over the efforts of the association, made more progress. It was able to get permission from the government institutions, financial resources to start the school and to buy a farm in Gižai. However, the outbreak of the World War I put an end to further actions.
