ENThe paper reviews the publishing of archival sound records. There two Lithuanian research institutions (Ethnomusicology departments in Lithuanian Literature and Folklore institute and Lithuanian Music and Theatre academy) which, in addition to storing and systemizing folklore, publishes it in various forms (monographs, songbooks, records - vinyls, tapes, casettes, CDs, etc.). Archival sound records are published according to the certain principles: regional (LMTA series “Lithuanian Folk Music”; LLFI series “Phonogram Records of the year 1935-1941 (1939)”, etc.), genre (“Lithuanian Folk Songs Anthology”, etc.), individual singers (series “Kings and Queens of Songs”, CD with a booklet “Dzukian Singer Marė Kuodžiūtė- Navickienė”, etc.). The sound records quality and consignee are discussed. The aspects of the archival sound records spread in modem society, the relation of an old person’s voice and a young listener are dealt with.The idea of new DVD series “From Musical Folklore Treasury” presented by the Ethnomusicology department of LMTA is treated with respect to mentality of young people of nowadays, to their attitude to traditions. The modem publishing of archival sound records is recommended by supplementing them with archival and new photos and video commented by well-known musicologists. The I DVD “The Circle of a Year” compiled by ethnomusicologists is expected to assist in formation the people’s opinion of genuine folklore which is not a museum relic, but a part of harmonious folklore system of customs and rituals, which had been moulding the contemporary Lithuanian mentality during long centuries.
