ENThe times have gone for ever when the duty of a teacher was to present competitively, consistently and systematically the subject, afterwards to examine and evaluate students on the acquired knowledge. Nowadays the role of a teacher is much broader, it embraces various spheres of influence, the complex issues of personality development and devotion to speciality. The report carries the quotations from “Learning to Teach in Higher Education” by Paul Ramsden. Piano art history - the subject compiled by a number of art historians and piano tutors is over 500 years old covering the history of piano as an instrument, its music, performance, pedagogics and theory. Piano art history students are future pianists who get acquainted with the Art during their piano practice classes. Piano teacher has always to bear in mind that her/his disciples arc persons seeking for unrepeatable unique ways of interpretation. They take art into their imagination according to J. Baltrušaitis words - art is a sort of a play, cognition and sacrifice. The real requirements of the subject include good knowledge, student’s artistry, creative intuition, social skills, wish and ability to convey the acquired information to the others. In each academic year the subject matter and teaching methods are to be changed by renewing them with new ideas, facts, references and approaches. Discussion clubs are to be set up where art topicalities could be discussed. Art events arc to be arranged which could help consolidating compulsory subjects with optional ones with a special emphasis on piano art history and piano play. The examinations have also to undergo some changes. They have to be conformed to the individual student demands, intentions and capabilities without reducing their high level and students’ intellect education. Examinations may be oral, written and even at the keys of piano. Most importantly, each Academy graduate has to know piano art as a certain unity, has to know the art of famous composers and performers, has to know the basic laws of art development.
