ENThe aim of this article is to present a short biography and scientific achievements of Stanisław Franciszek Zajączkowski (1890–1977), a Polish historian, medievalist, archivist, graduate of the University of Lviv, professor at the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius and the University of Łódź. Zajączkowski was born on January 29, 1890 in Lviv. He studied history at the University of Lviv. In 1921, at the same university, he defended his doctoral thesis on Samogitia in the 13th century. He worked in the State Archives in Lviv. He published scientific works in the magazines „Kwartalnik Historyczny” and „Ateneum Wileńskie”. In the academic year 1927/1928 he completed a research internship in France. In 1930, he obtained his habilitation at the Faculty of Humanities of the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv based on the work Poland and the Teutonic Order in the last years of the reign of Władysław Łokietek. In 1932, Zajączkowski was appointed to the Department of Medieval History and Auxiliary Sciences of History at the Faculty of Humanities of the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius, where he worked until December 15, 1939. After arriving in Vilnius, in addition to working at the university, he actively participated in the activities of many societies and scientific institutions, continued research on the history of Lithuania and the Teutonic Order in Prussia in the 13th 15th centuries. He published numerous works in this field (books, articles, reviews), which contributed a significant contribution to understanding the medieval history of Lithuania and neighboring Prussia. After World War II, Zajączkowski lived in Łódź, and in the years 1945 1960 he worked at the University of Łódź. He died on October 10, 1977.
