Almut Bues. Das Herzogtum Kurland und der Norden der polnisch-litauischen Adelsrepublik im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert : recenzija

LTIstorinėje literatūroje Kuršo ir Žiemgalos kunigaikštystei (toks oficialus šios periferinės buferinės valstybės pavadinimas) skiriama nedaug dėmesio. Oficialiai nuo 1560 m. kunigaikštystė liko Lenkijos ir Lietuvos valstybės vasalas, nors faktiškai XVIII a. - Rusijos marionetė. Sovietų istoriografijoje daugiau domėtasi "engiamųjų" latvių ir estų tautų, ar "engiamųjų" klasių istorija. Vokiečių istoriografijoje norom nenorom įsivyravo Rytų Pabaltijo vokiečių elito istorijos klausimai. Almut.as Bues.as parašė ne sintetinę istoriją, jo darbas priklauso lyginamųjų monografijų žanrui. Kuršo istorija pristatoma kitų Lenkijos ir Lietuvos valstybės Pabaltijo regionų (Karališkųjų Prūsų, Livonijos) istorijos fone. Bues.as apibūdina Abiejų Tautų Respublikos konstitucinės sandaros savitumą Europos kontekste. Darbe aptariamos geografinės ir politinės bei ūkinės ir demografinės regiono problemos, savivaldos organai bei jų funkcijos. Analizuojama teismų sistema Prūsijos kunigaikštystėje, Livonijoje, Kurše. Baigiamuosiuose skyriuose nagrinėjami karinės organizacijos, ūkio, religijos ir kultūros politikos problemos. Paskutiniame knygos skyriuje rašoma apie galimybes išlaikyti Kunigaikštystės savarankiškumą, pastangas glaudžiau integruotis į bendrą Lenkijos ir Lietuvos valstybę. Itin vertingas Kuršo ir Savojos palyginimas (pastaroji išnaudodama Prancūzijos, Habsburgų, Italijos žemių prieštaravimus sugebėjo išlaikyti gana įtakingą poziciją). ENHistorical literature dedicates little attention to the Duchy of Kuršas and Žiemgala (which is the official name of the peripheral state). From 1560 the Duchy officially remained a vassal of the state of Poland and Lithuania, although in the 18th century is actually was Russia’s marionette. The Soviet historiography took more interest in the history of the “oppressed” Latvians and Estonians or the “oppressed” classes. In German historiography the issues of the history of the German elite in the Eastern Baltics were consolidated. Almut Bues has written a non-synthetic history, his study belongs to the genre of comparative monographs. The history of Kuršas is presented on the background of the history of other Baltic regions of the state of Poland and Lithuania (Royal Prussians, Livonia). Bues characterizes the peculiarity of the constitutional composition of the Rzeczpospolita in the European context. The study discusses the geographical, political, economic and demographic problems of the region, self-government bodies and their functions and analyzes the courts system in the Duchy of Prussia, Livonia and Kuršas. The final chapters analyze the military organizations, the problems of economy, religion and culture politics. The concluding chapter provides the information on the possibilities to retain the self-sufficiency of the Duchy, the attempts of closer integration into the joint state of Poland and Lithuania. The comparison of Kuršas and Savoy (which managed to retain quite an influential position by using the land contradictions of France, Habsburgs and Italy) is especially valuable. Taking into consideration that the problem is little examined and the huge research, performed by Almut Bues, the monograph should be recognized as a very important contribution.
