Summary / Abstract:

ENIn 2001 the Museum of Kaišiadorys got hold of a collection of 172 glass negatives. They record buildings of churches, chapels and monasteries and their groups. The author of these negatives is a Vilnius photographer Adomas Daukša, who travelled around the gubernyas of Vilnius and Kaunas from late 19,h century to 1905 and took photographs of the buildings of the cult. Another 36 negatives by Daukša on the same subject are held at the Museum of Architecture. It is assumed that there should be other unknown negatives by the photographer, numbering from around ten or twenty to several scores. Their value lies in Lithuanian and Belarusian buildings of the cult or their complexes, destroyed by wars and fires, decayed or reconstructed in the 20,h century, recorded in an authentic environment. The circumstances of discovering the negatives led to an assumption that the collection could be owned by Rev. Dr Professor Juozapas Stakauskas (1900-1972) who was Director of Vilnius Historical Archives in 1939-1944.
