ENEnd-of-life care is an integral part of provision of needs of psychological health but more and more often the studies show that care tend to focus on physical well-being of a patient, technical work, but they often do not address the psychoemotional and spiritual needs of the dying patient. The aim of research is to disclose the principles of nurses’ work in solving psychological problems of the dying patient. Seeking to disclose the main principles of nurses‘ activity in solving psychological problems of the dying patient, qualitative phenomenological study was carried out at Hospital of Palliative Therapy and Care by applying the triangulation of the following methods: in-depth, semi-structured, 15-questions interview with 5 nurses, observation, and literature analysis. Analytical memos were written according to the responses received during the interviews. The results of the study allowed developing the following basic insights: conscious patients experience numerous psychoemotional problems when they are near death therefore the duty of all care are to lend their full and early support to the dying patient until the last moment of his life. The support should not be offered by force because the needs of each individual are different therefore a very important issue is the nurses‘ attitudes towards the loss and human existence, ability to be emphatic in the process of caring and to see difference between the physical body and soul, to look at the spiritual needs of the patient and his family and to satisfy them, to encourage not to be afraid of his feelings so that the patient would feel brave and adequate person in the face of his death. This study affords a unique opportunity to improve the personal psychological and spiritual competence, makes think about the true values of life, to note what fragile human life is and how valuable it becomes at the last moments of the terrestrial life. The feelings, experiences, remarks and expectations expresses by the care of Hospital of Palliative Therapy and Care will also be applied in improving the team work during the palliative care in other hospices and will allow identifying easier the psychoemotional problems and to look for the ways how to solve them.
