ENOn June 13 - September 17, 2006 Radvila Palace (branch of the Lithuanian Art Museum) housed an exhibition “The Artists of the Römer Family”, which was dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of Edvardas Jonas Riomeris (Römer). The author of the article presents a detailed description of the above-mentioned exhibition, which comprised paintings created by the artists of the Römer family. It is important to note, that this exhibition was the first display of the works created by all the artists of the Römer family (19th-20th c), although in 1897 an exhibition of the works of four members of the Römer family (Edvardas Jonas, Alfredas, Edvardas Matas and Elena) was displayed at the Lithuanian Art Museum. The exhibition “The Artists of the Römer Family” provided a deeper insight into the life and work of the renowned artists of the Römer family. It also introduced Lithuanian art critics and museologists to a few of the less known artists of the Römer family. Moreover, this exhibition revealed the significance of the art heritage of the Römer family in the development of Lithuanian art and also encouraged us to ponder on the relationship between the professional and amateur art.The exhibition was visited by various members of the Römer family, who are scattered in different parts of the world. On September 11, 2006, just before the closure of the exhibition, an international conference “The Römer family in Lithuania”, was organised, the aim of which was to introduce the Lithuanian public to the history of the Römer family and the importance of their art heritage in the political, public and cultural life of Lithuania. On October 5 - December 4, 2006 a smaller exhibition was displayed at the Frenkelis Villa (branch of Šiauliai “Aušra” Museum), which comprised paintings from the collections of the Lithuanian Art Museum and “Aušra” Museum in Šiauliai.
