Summary / Abstract:

Be to, tuo pat metu remiantis kalbiniais gebėjimais įsisavinamas dalykinis turinys, t. y. ugdomas tam tikro dalyko raštingumas. Straipsnyje pateikiama kalbinių gebėjimų integruoto ugdymo teorinė ir studija, pagrindžianti tokio ugdymo galimybes bei rekomendacijas Lietuvos ugdymo turinio tobulinimui. Empirinis tyrimas atliktas aiškinantis pradinių klasių mokinių istorinio laiko tėkmės supratimo gebėjimus, pasireiškiančius vaikų argumentuota kalba. [Iš leidinio]

ENGood language abilities of every person is the basis for quality learning and quality life. Integrated education is one of the most advanced ways of developing language abilities whereby they are developed both in language classes and in the classes of other disciplines. Besides, the development of language abilities is used as the basis to master subject-specific content, i.e. the literacy of a certain subject is developed. The article provides the theoretical background of integrated education of language abilities and a study which lays foundation for the potential of such education and offers recommendations for the improvement of the Lithuanian curriculum. Empirical study was carried out with reference to find out the abilities of primary school pupils to perceive historical current of time which are expressed in children’s reasoned speeches. The analysis of research literature and the results of empirical study revealed that the integration of the development of language abilities in the classes of various disciplines results in the development of higher order thinking skills such as analyzing, interpreting, explaining, comparing, evaluating. To put in other words, learning is turned into an active linguistic activity. In order to achieve integrated education of language abilities in the classes of various disciplines it has to be primarily incorporated in the documents that regulate the Lithuanian curriculum, namely, the Framework Programmes; relevant teaching material has to be also developed by the cooperation of scientists, policy-makers and practitioners. The basics of analytical skills of pupils are developed by a frequent practice, therefore, such assignments should be purposefully developed and applied. The recommendation is to purposefully use visual aids, to encourage children to discuss and analyze them, to find and identify specific details and features typical of a certain historical period. While analyzing information, details should be altogether connected and combined; information should be generalized, summarized, and interpreted. Children should be taught to provide data for all of their arguments. The curriculum should focus more on analyzing specific features of historical periods (armament, housing, clothing, vehicles, equipment). [From the publication]
