ENThe aim of this study was to evaluate inequalities in mortality from cardiovasculary diseases among people aged 65 and over in Lithuania and trends of these diseases during the years 2002-2011. Materials and methods. Mortality among the elderly from the two main circulatory diseases – chronic ischemic heart disease and acute miocardial infarction during the period 2002-2011 was analysed. The data were obtained from The Lithuanian Departament of Statistics (2002- 2009 yr.) and Institute of Hygiene (2010-2011 yr.). The data were analysed with MS Excell and SPSS 20.0 for Windows software. Also, the softaware MapViewerTM7 for standardized rates mapping was used. Inequalities of mortality between different municipalities were analysed using boxplot. The trends of mortality were assessed using linear regression. Results and conclusion. Males mortality rates from chronic ischemic heart disease were 5314,9 cases per 100 000 inhabitants during the period 2002-2006 and 4961,2 cases per 100 000 inhabitants during the years 2007-2011. Females mortality rates from the same disease were 4767,3 cases per 100 000 inhabitants during the first period and 4265,5 cases per 100 000 inhabitants during the second period. Males mortality rates from acute miocardial infarction were 515,4 cases per 100 000 inhabitants during the first period and 451,5 cases per 100 000 inhabitants during the second period. Females rates were 325,8 cases per 100 000 inhabitants and 303,5 cases per 100 000 inhabitants respectively. During the period 2002-2011 yr. males and females mortality from chronic ischemic disease decreased. Males mortality from acute miocardial infarction was also decreased. Females mortality from chronic ischemic disease decreased more than men‘s. Males and females mortality from chronic ischemic disease weres exceptionally high in municipality of Pagėgiai.Males mortality from acute miocardial infarction was exceptionally high in municipality of Visaginas.
