ENSince the mid-19th century, the women of the northern part of the Eastern Borderline have engaged in social and educational activities. These included organizing secret classes for the youth, and focused mostly on teaching Polish language and history. Despite the risk of being revealed by the Russian authorities, these women managed to reach remote villages and estates. During the short period of political thaw after 1907, they continued their educational work with children, youth and adults. They were also active participants of cultural and educational organizations. [From the publication]
